European shares inch up as markets await US trade developments

European stocks edged higher on Wednesday, buoyed by gains in defence shares, as investors looked for fresh cues on a potential trade agreement with the United States. The pan-European STOXX 600 index rose 0.2% to 546.94 points as of 0706 GMT. Other key regional indices also posted modest gains in early trade.
