Drugmakers Bharat Biotech and GSK announced on Wednesday that they will reduce the price of their malaria vaccine to below $5 per dose by 2028, cutting its current cost by more than half.
The vaccine, known as Mosquirix or RTS,S, was developed by GSK in partnership with the non-profit PATH and became the first malaria vaccine approved by the World Health Organization in 2022.
GSK is currently transferring the vaccine technology to Bharat Biotech and will continue supplying the adjuvant component until the Indian company fully takes over production by 2028.
