Taiwan stocks close down 5.8% as US tariffs strike



Taiwan stocks dropped 5.8% on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs came into effect. The Taiex index fell by 1,068.19 points to 17,391.76, despite the government's activation of a US$15 billion stabilization fund to soothe the market. Tech giants Foxconn plunged the maximum 10%, while TSMC dropped 3.8%.
