China trade tensions lift safe-haven gold to record high

Gold surged to a new record high on Friday, driven by growing recession fears and rising tariff tensions between the U.S. and China, which boosted investor appetite for safe-haven assets like bullion.

As of 0039 GMT, spot gold had climbed 1% to $3,205.53 per ounce, after earlier reaching an unprecedented high of $3,217.43. The precious metal is up over 5% for the week.
