Japan's Nikkei share average climbed nearly 2% on Tuesday, driven by gains in defense stocks following the confirmation of former defense minister Shigeru Ishiba as the country's next prime minister by parliament.
The Nikkei increased by 1.93% to close at 38,651.97, recovering from a nearly 5% drop in the previous session. Meanwhile, the broader Topix index rose 1.69% to 2,690.78.
