Japan's Nikkei edges lower on stronger yen, chip losses

Japan's Nikkei share average declined on Thursday, pressured by a stronger yen and losses in semiconductor-related stocks. Investors were also waiting for U.S. non-farm payroll data, scheduled for release on Friday, to assess the strength of the world's largest economy.

By the midday break, the Nikkei was down 0.35% at 36,917.44, having earlier fallen by more than 1% during the session. The benchmark index was set to record its third consecutive day of losses.
