Oil rises on risk of broadening Middle East conflict

Oil prices increased on Thursday, continuing the upward trend from the previous session. This rise followed the killing of a Hamas leader in Iran, heightening concerns about a broader Middle East conflict and its potential impact on oil supply. By 0800 GMT, global benchmark Brent crude futures were up 78 cents, or 1%, to $81.62 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 79 cents, also 1%, to $78.70 a barrel.
