Japan's Nikkei jumps as recession fears ease on US retail sales data

Japan's Nikkei share average surged nearly 3% on Friday, achieving its best week in over four years. The rally was fueled by strong U.S. retail sales data, which alleviated recession fears in the world's largest economy and Japan's major trading partner.

The Nikkei closed up 3.6% at 38,062.67, marking its second-largest daily gain of the year. Meanwhile, the broader Topix index rose approximately 3% to finish at 2,678.60.
