With US markets closed, Asian shares slip and European shares gain

On Friday, Asian shares declined following strong gains in European markets overnight, with U.S. markets closed for the July 4th holiday.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index briefly exceeded 41,000 early in the day before retracing from its record close of 40,913.65 on Thursday.

U.S. futures saw a slight increase while oil prices declined.
