Tokyo shares drift lower

Tokyo stocks started Thursday's trading session with a decline, influenced by a downtrend in European shares from the previous day. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index dropped 0.33 percent, or 128.42 points, to 38,442.34 points.

Similarly, the broader Topix index fell by 0.19 percent, or 5.28 points, reaching 2,723.36 points. The US market remained closed for a holiday, contributing to subdued trading activity.
