S&P 500, Nasdaq close at record highs as data supports Fed easing

On Wednesday, both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices achieved record closing highs, largely driven by the strength of technology stocks. Investors were digesting economic data that hinted at the potential commencement of the Federal Reserve's anticipated policy easing cycle.

Technology shares led the gains among the 11 sectors in the S&P 500, with communications and industrials sectors following suit. Conversely, consumer staples stocks experienced the most significant declines.
