Oil steady as US demand flags but Middle East risk mounts

Oil prices remained largely steady on Thursday. A surprise increase in US stockpiles has sparked fears of sluggish demand from the world's largest oil consumer, counteracting supply concerns due to escalating conflict in the Middle East. Brent crude oil futures rose by 43 cents (0.5%) to $85.68 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased by 42 cents (0.5%) to $81.32 per barrel. Both benchmarks had seen slight gains on Wednesday.
