London stocks open lower as US yield spike renews rate worries

London stocks commenced trading lower on Wednesday, influenced by increased U.S. bond yields, which exerted pressure on equities worldwide. Additionally, fresh data from the United States revived concerns about inflation, raising doubts regarding the timing of potential rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

As of 0707 GMT, the blue-chip FTSE 100 was down by 0.1% at 8,243.98 points, marking a three-week low. The index is on course for its lengthiest losing streak since August 2023.
